NailHead Microstructural Informatics
212 Partners LLC Initiative
Current Status: Currently at Funding Stage
The research, development, application, maintenance and failure analysis of advanced engineered materials critically requires information about their “state” (which is the sum total of their composition, processing, properties and defects).
Microstructural images capture much of this information qualitatively as well as quantitatively. As such, they can be (and are) an extremely valuable tool in characterizing, analyzing, understanding, designing and troubleshooting these materials.
In spite of their critical importance, there is a substantial gap between the needs of the user community and available resources.
In order to reddress this important gap, NailHead has been conceived by 212 Partners LLC as an Image-Centric Materials Informatics initiative. The NailHead is intended primarily for the use of the worldwide engineering community (practicing engineers, QC personnel, R&D and academia – both teachers and students). It will be a free image-centric materials information exchange platform with embedded tiered-subscription “Cores” (databases, one for each material type) of microstructural images of exceptional quality, breadth and depth, far exceeding, by at least an order of magnitude, what is currently available online or in any other print, or electronic format.
